A pilot place-based programme is offering tailored career advice and guidance for residents who are unemployed or on low incomes. The programme targets women aged 18 and above who live in North Hyde and North Cranford.

Work Hounslow, supported by Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team, empowers women facing employment barriers, such as poor health or caring responsibilities, by equipping them with the skills to access good jobs and opportunities, including volunteering.

The Council has identified North Hyde and North Cranford as two of its ‘Equality Opportunity Areas’ - communities recognised as needing additional support and services, including employment assistance. Council data shows that a high proportion of residents in these areas work in entry-level, low-paid jobs compared to the borough average. Read more here

In addition to this targeted initiative, Work Hounslow offers free employment support across the borough for eligible residents aged 18 and over. This includes fortnightly meetings with employment advisors over a six-month period.

Funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the team provides one-to-one careers and employment support for unemployed residents aged 18 and over, delivered over a six-month period.

In the 2024/2025 financial year, the programme supported 146 unemployed residents in finding good job opportunities. The team also organised three career fairs, hosted weekly drop-in sessions across the borough and collaborated with partners and employers to deliver skills training.

The employer engagement team is collaborating with local businesses and organisations to identify jobs, volunteering roles and work trials, and to co-create pathways to employment for the above employment support programmes.
